Helen Birnbaum’s thought provoking and humorous ceramics find their inspiration in science and society which is approached in a questioning way using sculpture, photography, film and sound. The starting point of much of the work is contemporary society’s relationship with world changing events. All these sculptures are made by hand with coils, slabs and spheres of clay connected together to make different forms. Sometimes found rusty metal objects are attached to enhance the design – this is exciting art that will always make you stop and think.
